The walls of Kandrakar are filled with pictures and for someone trying to identify the history of the place this is a true nightmare!
In general the history of the kingdom wasn't easy to figure out. There are slight discrepancies here and there and because of the ancient age of Kandrakar much of history is already lost or never
mentioned in the comics.
I really felt like an archeologist, digging for any kind of information, trying to interpret pictures and small trinkets, collecting info from different sources to try and piece together what actually happened.
It was actually designed smartly because if you look at Earth's history it's practically the same. Many stories have been lost or we only know of tales or legends that hold truth but over time it is hard to tell what's truth and what tale. Or you look at ancient paintings. You often don't know who it was or why that person was painted. You can guess and thanks to modern technology we can make an estimation at the age of a painting or find clues that point us to further clues until we finally find out more about the story behind the picture.
In Kandrakar the pictures furthest down show the oldest memories of the fortress. That means the pictures in the underworld are the oldest of memories the place has while the ones within the halls where W.i.t.c.h. often wanders around are the more recent ones shown on the walls. This gives a small indication of the age of what is shown. Still we don't know if all pictures represent an actual event or if some simply are pictures, decorations like the many pictures of an oracle that plaster the walls over and over again.
And then it's not sure how the artists of the comic worked and if they intended a story behind every single wall fragment.
Still, this was an interesting experience and I hope I will stumble upon more bits and pieces of Kandrakar's history as I continue my research.
