Language

Metamoor has its own language. The first time we learn that is in issue 3 through the book that holds the Seal of Phobos. Metamoor has its own writing and alphabet, one that seems to be difficult to learn. After becoming queen, Elyon studies with her tutor, trying to memorize the different letters. We can find a listing of all letters and their names in Elyon's diary along with an example where she tried to write the names of the WITCH girls. The writings appear again in a message sent from Kandrakar and through a speech bubble from the book of Ludmoor. Through the latter, we also know that Metamoor also has its own

spoken language. Cedric calls it ancient Metamoorian. But neither W.i.t.c.h. nor Elyon have any trouble understanding the locals of the kingdom of today. It is possible that spoken Metamoorian is only taught to a few. Ludmoor and Cedric both are capable of the language, both being part of the more recent history of the world. This could mean that only human-decendants are allowed to learn it, or that only members of the court learn it, or that both men simply had enough interest to study it. Ancient Metamoorian possibly was the worlds' language until Escanor arrived. With his reign and generations to follow the language could have slowly been lost to the general public, using Earthen language instead. With Escanor being from Briton, English is the most likely choice. But this is all speculation.

Idioms & Expressions

In the different comic issues and specials, we come across a few rather unique expressions that are being used specifically in the Metaworld. Here is a small collection of them and how they appear to be used, judging by the context they were said in and the accompanying facial expression or reactions from both speaker and listener:

"[...,] you Tatterdemalion!"

-- cursing or insulting someone (Caleb & Elyon special)

"Great thunders of Imdhal!" / "Flashes of Imdhal!"

-- expression of surprise or bewilderment with a negative connotation (Issues 7,...)

"By the moons of Gaahn"

-- expression of surprise or bewilderment (Issue 01)

"Zounds!"

-- curse similar to Earthan 'damn it' or 'darn' (Issue 03)

"Eternal radiance for/to the Light of Meridian"

-- parole to honor/hail Queen Elyon (Elyon special)
