Orube

Normal Life

Full name:

Orube. It is unclear if surnames are customary in Basiliade. Later she is called Orube Rudolphs on Earth so she can use Ms. Rudolph's house as her home.

Age:
Older than W.i.t.c.h. but it's not clear how much. Yua calls her a "little girl" so she can't be much older either. Maybe around 17-18 years.

Family:

Orube has a father and a mother who both expected her to go to the Gardens of Two Suns to become a warrior. Orubes father is also a warrior and very strict with her. Apart from those two, one might count Luba to her family. They are not related by blood but during her time in the gardens, Luba became her mentor and friend. The only one she had at the time. This made Luba's passing so very difficult for the girl. When she meets W.i.t.c.h. and becomes a guardian, she still holds a grudge and blames the girls for what happened to her mentor.

Pet:
Orube doesn't have a pet. She gets along well with cats in general and later on she takes care of Wee. Sadly she's allergic to him and can't keep him. Before leaving Heatherfield in issue (XY) Himerish asks her to take Wee with her since Basiliade is his home as much as hers.

Home:
Orube's home lies in Basiliade with her mother and father and with the garden of the Two Suns. However she later feels very much at home in Heatherfield and enjoys staying in Ms. Rudolph's house. After Cedric's death however, she returns to Basiliade.

School:

Orube is from Basiliade and went to the Gardens of Two Suns where every child goes to become a warrior. She was one of the best students and studied under Luba.

Job:

In order to earn money on Earth, Orube takes on different jobs. Her first one is at Olsen's Pet shop. She's particularly good with cats. Later in the Orube special she starts working for a newspaper, using her agility and strength to gather evidence and take otherwise impossible pictures (like hanging from a building to take a picture through the window of an appartment)

Guardian Life

Guardian Role:
Orube's first task as a guardian is to substitute for Taranee until she returns. She is to lend her strength and energy to the group to ensure the balance of the team.
Orube is a warrior through and through. She doesn't ask questions and goes for the attack almost instantly. It takes time for her and Will to get along and Irma and Orube almost always argue when they meet.
She is a doer, while Will is more of a thinker. At some point they both discover they can learn something from the other and their mission in Arkhanta finally ends with a success.

She is also, of course, a skilled warrior both with and without a sword.

Entrusted Artefact:
After Cedric's death, Orube receives the book of Ludmoor for keepsake.

Element:
Warrior (?) It's not made apparent if she is connected to an element and if so which one it is.

Basic Powers:
There's not much known about Orube's magical powers. She's capable of some magic but very limited in comparison to the other girls of the team and she rarely uses them.
Orube does however have a magical shield that protects her, similar to Will's. She's also able to shoot energy blasts and rays in violet. One thing that isn't clear is whether or not she has these powers in general or only while being a guardian. It sometimes appears like she's not very used to the magic which would point to the latter.

Communication Powers:
There's no known connection between Orube and her source of power. She meditates sometimes and once had a test where she had to face herself but unlike the other girls there seems to be no direct contact between her and her powers.

Guardian Powers:

Unlike the other girls, Orube is never clearly shown using any of the typical guardian magic.

She turns invisible once on Arkhanta. She travels with W.i.t.c.h. but is never seen using the translocation for example. And while she has her own guardian outfit, she's never seen actually transforming into it like the other girls. Her speed seems fast but this could just as well be due to her warrior training.

Gift of Xin Ying:

Like the others, Orube gives up the gift to save Maqi in Arkhanta.

Other Powers:

After being possessed by Yua, Orube can feel her presence and detect her even behind magical barriers. Also she is very agile and has enhanced senses. However, this could be normal for someone from Basiliade for all we know.

Nemesis & Traumata

Weaknesses:

Orube's weakness is her pride and ignorance when it comes to emotions. Friendship, caring, loving are traits of soft people. She's also very rash and goes straight for the attack before even thinking things through. This causes a great problem with Ari of Arkhanta - but even more so, Will who tries to think ahead and prefers a retreat to gather ones' strength and attack at a more opportune moment, over a hasty and risky skirmish.

Personal Nemesis:

The one creature Orube could call her nemesis is Yua the banshee. While on a mission in Arkhanta, Yua tricked Orube and possessed her mind. She lay a spell on her to forget her past. Orube proved stronger than anticipated and managed to warn the W.i.t.c.h. girls before falling unconscious. Sadly they didn't know what to make of the behaviour and brought her to Kandrakar anyway. There, Yua used her body to attack the Oracle. In the end W.i.t.c.h. had to fight her, combined their powers at a small level and Orube was free from the banshee's influence.

Traumata:

This part is free interpretation. There is never a moment in the comics where it says: This is a trauma! However I imagine some events that happened to the W.i.t.c.h. girls on their adventures have left mental scars.

For Orube, the most terrible experiences were the possession by Yua and Cedric's death.

After being freed from Yua's influence, Orube told Will that she knew what was happening, of Yua using her body to strike the Oracle. She knew it and wasn't able to free herself. She was trapped in her own body. It also seems, as if Orube changes her ways after the incident. She's calmer, maybe more careful and dares to trust the other girls more in their decisions and abilities. This also indicates the impact Yua's possession must have had on her.

After meeting Cedric, the only person she could really relate to (another off-world stranger having to get used to the life on Earth), she had to watch him die before their love could truely blossom. The emotional impact of this event is so strong that Orube holds onto the book of Ludmoor, in which Cedric met his end. A sentiment Orube rarely shows. The only other item she ever seems affectionate about is the ring she is awarded by Luba back on Basiliade that serves as a test to see if she is a true warrior. Cedric's passing also causes Orube to decide to return to Basiliade, to leave Heatherfield and with it, her place in the guardian team.

Childhood

Orube's childhood wasn't easy. When her time came to leave home and become a warrior, she was too attached to her parents, especially her father. She refused to leave. But her father was a very strict man. He forced her to go so he would not need to be ashamed of her. After that day, Orube did everything to live up to her parents' expectations, making her blind to emotion and things like friendship or teamwork. All she cared for was battle and success.
